GENERAL FAQS

I have not done any sports in a long time? What can you do for me?

We will work with you on your fitness whatever your experience, level of fitness or circumstances. Your best solution would be to work on a 1 to 1 basis until your fitness is slightly improved, and then you can integrate into a class. An alternate approach is to start with our running for beginners which is very gradual and easy. If you are unsure, do give us a call and an instructor will take you through a programme that is adapted to you specifically.

Do you only train women?

We do have a lot of ladies and some of our outdoor classes are held in ladies only areas, but we also have some male clients who train regularly with us, on a personal training basis.   Now that we have moved indoors, our classes are mixed. We obviously don't expect any men in our prenatal and postnatal classes ! We adapt to all levels of fitness and can tailor make personal training programmes specifically for men.

Where do you train?

Our outdoor classes are in Arabian Ranches and in Umm Suqueim park.  We have also a few indoor locations for the hot summer months. We can train you in your home or in most suitable public areas. All Indoor locations are clearly indicated on the schedule section of our website and we have uploaded maps for your convenience.  In case of doubt, just give us a call !

How can I pay?

You can pay the instructor on the day of the class or for a series of classes. You can pay cash or by cheque, payable to Urban Energy. If you bring cash on the day, please put it in an envelope with your name on.

How long does each class last?

Each class lasts 1 hour.

PRENATAL FITNESS FAQS

When should I start/stop exercising?

As a general rule, you can exercise all of the way through your pregnancy up until the due date, as long as you have your doctor’s consent.  Many doctors say that you should not heavily exercise until after your 1st trimester. Your doctor needs to be informed of your intentions and they will let you know if there is a reason why you should not do this. However, providing your pregnancy is progressing well and you are not considered at risk, exercising during pregnancy will be beneficial to both you and baby.

I am expecting twins / triplets. Is this going to be a problem?

The same rules as above apply to multiple pregnancies but obtaining the go-ahead from your doctor is even more crucial. We would be happy to talk to your doctor about a tailor-made programme specifically for you if you wish us to do so.

What is involved in the prenatal class?

We begin the class with a warm up, leading onto general aerobic exercises, which is a mixture of light to moderate resistance exercise and low impact cardio exercise. We will use some equipment and light weights but mostly be working with your own body weight. Once the class is over, a thorough cool down is required. Equipment used includes Kettle bells, resistance bands, dumbbell and your own body weight.

What do I need to wear?

A well-fitting support bra, supportive trainers, and loose fitting sports clothing.

What should I bring with me?

A bottle of water and an exercise mat if you have one. If any exercises require further equipment, these will be provided by Urban Energy.

I would like to come to a class but they are not accessible for me?

Please contact us to let us know where you would like these classes to be held. We will always do our utmost to cater to our potential clients requirements.

When do I need to stop exercising before giving birth?

As our prenatal fitness classes are designed for pregnant women, you can continue to exercise right up until your due date. Your Doctor will inform you if this is not recommended for any specific reason.

URBAN STORKFIT FAQS

What is Urban Storkfit?

Urban Storkfit is our post natal programme, specifically designed for women who have just given birth. It's a fitness class with exercises which take into account the body's weaknesses after birth and pregnancy.

When can I start exercising after giving birth?

As a general rule, you can exercise safely after giving birth as early as 6 weeks (natural birth) or 10 weeks (c-section), although your doctor should always be consulted.

Do I bring baby with me?

Yes, that’s one great advantage of this class. You bring your baby with you and you can decide to exercise with the baby or using weights. We try to involve your baby during the class, but if he/she is happy to sit there watch you get a good sweat, then that’s fine too!

Is it a buggy-type class?

No, it’s very different. We believe that you can push your pram whilst having a chat to your friends without having to pay an instructor for that! Part of the warm up is power walking with the buggy but then we move on to proper fitness exercises. You will definitely feel the effort. The aim is to get your muscles back on track and recovering from the hardships of pregnancy.

URBAN RUN FAQS

What is Urban Run?

It’s a running class specifically designed for beginners.

Why can’t I learn to run on my own?

Well you can, and nothing stops you getting out for a run on your own. We do, however, run through everything from the beginning: your body posture, your gait, your stride, breathing and any other technique. We design different programmes for every session.

What are the benefits of Urban Run?

The instructor will constantly correct your running technique, which is so important at the beginning. Also, you will run with a group of likeminded, equivalent level, people which is so much more pleasant than getting out on your own.

URBAN KICK FAQS

What is Urban Kick?

Urban Kick is a group class based on a mixture of Thai boxing and kick boxing techniques. Working in pairs, you will learn to punch and kick with legs and arms. Each session will teach you a new move and new combinations.  It is different from other classes you may have attended in that you will actually kick pads and incorporate fitness exercises in between.

Do I need to have experience in kickboxing?

No, a complete beginner can join a kickboxing class. You will be paired with someone at the same level as you so you can progress at your own pace.

Do I need to be fit to start kickboxing?

No, you don’t. At the beginning, you will punch and kick according to your level of fitness. When you improve your fitness, so will the effectiveness of your kicks and punches. You will, however, get fitter, faster!

Why do you say it’s fun?

Because it is! Because you are learning new moves all the time, you don’t really realise that it’s a fitness class. You don’t have time to get bored! You work your coordination skills, as well as your muscles ... and you get all your frustrations out on a pad! And let’s face it... wearing boxing gloves is just the best!

Do I need to bring equipment?

No, we provide you with everything. You bring water and come dressed appropriately for a fitness class. If you have a skipping rope, feel free to bring it.
